What is Funds Now and how does it work?
Funds Now Update March 2021: We're continuously evaluating the services we offer and have decided to retire Funds Now within the upcoming months and to replace it with an improved program, which will launch in the near future. Further details will follow closer to the launch date including the benefits and eligibility for enrollment.
What is Funds Now?
Funds Now is a program recently launched by PayPal for select sellers. It gives you access to the money from your completed sales in your PayPal account faster than ever (within seconds). With Funds Now, you’ll experience fewer delays in getting access to your money, even if there are ongoing disputes being resolved. It’s our commitment to helping you get your money faster and get paid easily.
Is there an extra fee for Funds Now?
There’s no extra fee for Funds Now. You’ll still pay the standard PayPal transaction fees, but there’s no additional charge for getting the money from your completed sales faster. In some cases, we might need you to confirm your phone number or other information related to your identity. This information is needed to help keep your account secure.
I already have fast access to the money from my sales. What’s different about this?
It’s great to hear that you experience fast access to your money when you get paid! What Funds Now promises is that, in the future, money won’t be held even during disputes. In rare cases, delays may still occur to help protect your account, e.g., if we suspect you've received a payment from a fraudulent buyer. If this happens, we'll let you know right away and help you resolve any issues.
Is my account eligible for Funds Now?
If your account is eligible for Funds Now, you’ll receive an email or account notification. We’re working to make this benefit available to more sellers, and to provide ways for you to let us know you’re interested in Funds Now, so stay tuned for an email from us.
A few basic criteria to be eligible for Funds Now include:
- having a PayPal account for more than 12 months;
- having a strong selling record (e.g. a number of successful transactions in the last 12 months, low incidence of claims or disputes); and
- continuously abiding by our Acceptable Use Policy.
We continuously review accounts for eligibility so even if you aren’t eligible at this time, keep building a consistent selling record and you may qualify for Funds Now in the future. If you would like us to review your account for eligibility, you can apply now.
What are the rare cases where my money may be delayed even if I have Funds Now?
Your account security is our priority. In order to protect your PayPal account, the PayPal community and to comply with applicable laws, in certain cases, the money from your sales may be delayed.
For example, we may delay access to money if we have concerns related to potential account takeover, fraudulent activity or to comply with anti-money laundering or sanction regulations. This is done in accordance with the PayPal User Agreement.
If you’re a marketplace seller, your marketplace may request that PayPal delay access to your money.
What happens if I have Funds Now and there’s a dispute?
You’ll still need to take the necessary steps to resolve the dispute with your buyer. However, with Funds Now, the disputed amount won’t be held.
We recommend that you always respond as soon as possible to any requests for information about any transaction. We also advise that you always provide proof of shipping or delivery when you receive notification of an unauthorised transaction. This helps us to confirm that you shipped the goods and followed our safe-selling guidelines. In certain cases, we will try to cover you without this information but this is not always possible. So, if the dispute is resolved in the favour of the buyer, owed money will be deducted from your balance.
Can I lose Funds Now?
As long as your account is in good standing, you’ll get to enjoy the benefit of Funds Now. Here are some things that could impact your account standing:
- Change in the goods or services you provide as a business
- Increased number of customer complaints, returns, claims, or chargebacks
- Government or legal regulations such as those relating to anti-money laundering or sanctions
- Potential concerns of fraud or unauthorised access to your account.
However, if something changes and you lose the benefit, we’ll reach out to you by email or alert you through notifications in your account.
Can I get Funds Now again if I lose the benefit?
Funds Now is a benefit for select sellers with good standing. If you become re-eligible for this
benefit, PayPal may invite you to enjoy this benefit again.

We continuously evaluate the benefits and services we offer. Funds Now may be subject to change or may end in the future with or without prior notice.
