What information do I need to provide to confirm my charity status?

To accept donations for your charity using PayPal, you should first sign-up for a PayPal account or upgrade your existing account to a PayPal Business account.

Create the account using the charity or organisation name, with the name of a specific person added as a contact for the account. Choose ‘Non-profit’  as the business category when signing up.

To get the discounted charity rate for your organisation, we need to confirm your charity account. You can begin the confirmation process on our Charities page.

Please review the get started guide  to see what information you’ll need to supply.

Once confirmed as a charity, your charity can access various PayPal products such as PayPal Giving Fund, Give at Checkout and more.

To create a Donate button:

  1. Go to your  PayPal buttons
  2. Click  Get started
  3. Click the  Donate  tile and fill up the form

The benefits of a Donate button:

  • You receive payments by credit card or bank account
  • You don't pay any monthly fees, start-up fees, or cancellation fees

How is this account information used?

We use these documents to verify that the charity or nonprofit is registered and to ensure that we meet our regulatory requirements for the government. Donors also need to know that their money is going to a registered nonprofit organisation. We also need to verify that the nonprofit is registered because of the nonprofit discounted fees.
