What payment methods can I use with PayPal?

If you're sending a PayPal payment, we'll always use any available money in your PayPal balance to fund the payment.

If you don't have enough money in your balance, we'll try to take the money from your bank account. If you haven't added a bank account to your PayPal account, we'll try to take the money from a linked card instead.

The default payment preferences are:

  1. Instant balance transfer
  2. Instant bank transfer (if a bank has been added)
  3. PayPal Credit (if applicable)
  4. Instant card payment (if a card has been linked)
  5. eCheque (takes up to 10 working days)

Here's how to change your preferred payment method:

  1. Click Wallet.
  2. Click the preferred payment method.
  3. Click Set as preferred.

Please note that you need to add a payment method (such as a card) to your PayPal account before you can select it as a preferred way to pay.

Changing your preferred payment method won’t affect automatic payments. You can update your payment preference directly on the automatic payment.
