How do I report a spoof email via the PayPal app?
We understand receiving a fake email can be worrying, so we urge you to contact us if you're concerned about your PayPal account. When you receive a suspicious email, don't hesitate to contact us. On the app, tap the Settings icon on the top right, then tap Message Centre.
You'll know that an email wasn't sent by PayPal if:
- The email opens with a generic greeting like "Dear user" or "Hello, PayPal member." We'll always address you by your first and last name or the business name on your PayPal account.
- The email requests financial and other personal information.
- The email contains an attachment, like a software update you can install on your computer.
- The email asks you to send a payment outside of the PayPal system, for example via Western Union money order.
Forward any suspicious email to firstname.lastname@example.org, then delete it from your inbox. To learn more about keeping your PayPal account secure, click Security at the bottom of any page.
